Pulling tires

Here"s an age-old question that should keep the opinions flying. I pull a standard frame Massey Harris 44 in 5000-7000 lb. with 16.9-30 rear tires. Right now I'm running a new set of Goodyear Dyna-Torque II's. I have the chance to get either a set of old Co-Op Agri-power tires with about 1 inch of tread, and some weahter checking down the middle of the tread, or a set of Firestone super all traction 23 degree's with about 1/2 of usable tread. What do you all think. Or, should I get them both?

Standard tread 44 has cast 30" centers... Only way to change wheel would be to swap on a set of Row Crop axle housings, axles, and hubs... Will lose about 750lbs doing the swap... All to gain 9 bolt hubs. 18.4 30's will fit under the fenders on a 16" wheel, barely...

Are the Firestones road worn or just wore out? I have 14.9 38 Armstrongs on my standard. Would love to run a set of 16.9 34 But local club rules would bump the old girl up to 7500lb and above...

Thanks to the design of my tractor, I'd have to find a row-crop rear end and swap out the axles and axle housings to run 9-bolt hubs. The cast centers will only clamp to 30" deep drop center rims. I sent you an email, if you're address is still the same.

With the same height of tire and all other factors identical. A 38" rim tire seems to out pull a a 26 rim or 30 rim tire. Particularly on hard survace tracks.
I"ve seen two otherise identical tractors. One with 23.1X26 nearly helpless on the track and 18.4X38"s walk away with the sled.
