Would like any advise on pulling my MM g1000 Vista. This will be my first time so any tip or sugestions would be helpful. I have weights on the back and suitcase on the front. How do you think it will do?

Get a copy of the rules for your pulling club. And try to get there early enough to weigh in just in case you can take some off to make a lighter class. Don't have too much air in the back tires and find the screw that lets the black smoke come out. :-)

Before we can give any good advice, I think we need a lot more pictures!!

ha...

You sure have a nice looking tractor!!

If it allready has fluid in the tires, don't worry, be safe and go have fun. It depends how heavy you want to pull.

I wouldn't put fluid in unless I had alot of trouble making weight.

First thing to start with is to get a hitch ring set up at the proper height. Again, you need the rules of where you plan on pulling. Don't worry about the drawbar length yet.

mmgirl,
There is one important thing to remember...HAVE FUN. You have a great tractor there. With time things will come together.

On your first pull; I would try to place more weight on the front end until you get the feel of your tractor. Everyone gets nervous and tends to pop up the front end on the first few pulls. If you make no errors, you are doing nothing.

If you get lucky, and good; those front wheels will dangle one inch off the ground as you steer the tractor, with the brakes, to a full pull. Think of it as learning to ride a bicycle. You just want to keep those two back wheels down and the two up front barely off the ground. After a while it gets really easy. I myself tend to point the front end skyward, no matter how much weight gets piled on the front.

I would advise you to pull in the lowest weight class you can get into. With experience, you will learn when how much throttle is needed and what gear to use. I love the low gear classes for inexperienced operators. I also love low gear classes for me too. In a lower class, you have extra power and can play with the throttle to grab traction, keep the front end down, or get over a soft spot on the track.

Fluid in the tires is just a way to add weight when weights are not available. I tend to steer new pullers to skip the fluid, if it is not already there. Think of fluid as weight that is hard to remove easily.

You have to pull your tractor a bit to determine proper tire pressure. Look at the tire marks after your pull is done. Lower tire pressure until the tread just begins to lift in the center of the tire track. On a hard track; you should look at where the tire scratched the track. Pulling dirt on the full width of the tire is as good as it gets. That means the entire width of the cleat is pulling evenly. No two tractors use the same tire pressure in the same weight class. I stress again; with experience everything will become easy.

Now go forth to stir up some dirt, and trouble.

nice looking vista! did you restore it?

For pulling it takes lots of time. The people who have success pulling are usually the ones who know their tractor the best.

Thanks. My Vista was in good shape when I got it. but we have done alot of little things to it. put some new parts on it. Trying to get my husband to paint it for me.

Wow... Everyone has their own opinions, and I'd never tell anyone what to do with their property, but if that was my tractor, I wouldn't touch the paint!!

If that is the original paint - there aren't too many left in that good of original beautiful condition!!

Any of them can be repainted... Not many nice looking originals left...

Just my humble opinion! :)

Wow nice vista!!! you should weight about 11,000lbs. now ,to pull in 2 classes you will need about 2000 lbs of weight I would try your lighter class in second gear and the heavy class in frist . torque on the high side and go down if needed . the hitch is MOST important!! find out the rules and get the hitch at max. height and as close to the axle as the rules alllow 10 to 12 lbs tire pressure and GO.!! you will be out horsepowered but I have puy many 150 hp. tractor away with a 100hp. moline Bob
