pully shut off

My WD 45 pully runs constantly. None of my books are clear as to what adjustment to make to shut it off when the tractor is in motion or standing still. Does anyone know how to stop the pully when the tractor is running? Any adjustments? It's maddening. Thanks, Basil

THere's no way to turn the pulley on and off from the seat or while driving. To disengage the pulley, there's a tapered bolt with a jam nut just above or above and slightly to the right of the pulley. Loosen that bolt and slide the pulley out a little to unmesh the gears and disengage the pulley.
THere's a carrier around the pulley shaft and around the middle it has tapered holes. When the pulley's pushed and the way in, the tapered bolt fits in these holes and locks the pulley into the engaged position. At the end of the carrier there's a groove machined all the way around and when you pull the pulley out you can feel the tapered bolt screw into the groove. TIghten the bolt and the pulley is disengaged and can't move in or out.
Be careful not to pulley out too far feeling for the groove or you'll dump out all your oil.

As Dave said you either have it slide in to make it spin or you pull it out and lock it in the no run position. No lever or or such control to stop and start it from the seat

There is also an aftermarket attachment that bolts to the frame that the pully hub passes through which has an ecentric and a lever. When you move the lever forward or backwards it causes the pully assembly to go in or out to engage or disengage the pully. I picked one up on Ebay earlier this year and installed it on my WD, it works great. I"ve only seen one other at a show, but I"m sure they"re out there.Mark

I should have added that I have a rod attached to the lever that goes back to the steering post with a PTO knob on the end which allows me to activate it from the drivers seat. Mark

The operator manual details pulley operation. Service manuals do not. Service manual (I&T AC 11) does explain the reason for the multiple holes around the sleeve- they are not in a concentric circle. You need to find the hole that gives you about a 1/8-1/4 inch play on the edge of the pulley, then puncture wound mark the top of the sleeve, and the top of the frame, so you can always locate the proper hole if the pulley has been removed, and then re-installed. DO NOT attempt to engage or dis-engage the pulley with the engine running, unless the foot clutch is locked forward. Best to just shut off the engine.

Here's some pics of the pully engagement in question. I don't have the engagement rod attached in these pics. When the lever is forward, the whole assembly is pushed out disengaging it and engaged when the lever is pulled back.

Try this again. It doesn't show in the pics, but the lever has a round tube with a clamp bolt that fits tight around the bearing body of the pully assembly.Hope this makes sense to everyone. Mark
