Push Rod Gas for a NAA

We are going over our NAA to correct a number of minor items and repaintinting it. Removed the push rod cover to paint
it and correct a minor oil leak. The gasket was one that covered the entire surace of the push rod cover with a
approximately 1.5 X 3 inch hole in it to drain any oil caught between the gasket and push rod cover. The gasket was
bulged in the non contact areas and had a number of cracks in it. We ordered a new gasket from this site and it is juat
like the gasket we removed. ie covered the whole surface of the push rod cover and not just the sealing surface.
Looking over our Ford parts manual, it shows a gasket that just goes on the sealing surface.
Was the gasket changed for some reason after the start of production ? Does anyone know why it was changed ?
My got feeling is to find a gasket that just covers the sealing surface rather than the whole surface on push rod cover.
This would avoid the trapped oil between the gasket and push rod cover plus avoid the possibility of the unsuppurted
portion on the gasket breaking up and getting into the oil stream.
Would appreciate any help anyone can give me on this matter.
Thank You very much !
