Others can help but should be the same, what did you take out and what was the application of the 148?

There were two versions of the 148 blocks. The earlier ones had a cutout where a two bolt starter bolted to the bellhousing and a later version that had a flange at rear and a 3 bolt starter slid through the flange and bolted into the bellhousing. That being said;; Any Case small block 4 cyl engine from a 124 to a 207 deisel will mate up to the bellhousings 4 main studs. Are you dealing with a Case overhead valve engines or do you have a continental with an adapter plate in the mix. ATC used the continental in 310s prior to Case buying ATC.

When we do a 201 gas swap into a vac we have to drill new holes approx 1 inch inside the old ones on the bottom and drill and tap the block on top into the water jacket and thread to 5/8 NC. I believe but could stand corrected that the big bell housing that took the later 148s through 207 diesel came out in the 350-500. that housing had a 2 bolt starter and the later 30 series had a 3 bolt starter, can you send pictures? I am guessing that the bolt pattern is much larger if you are using a later engine or vice versa. The 400 COM engine would have the large bell with a 2 bolt starter, Pics of all would help.
