I am in need of some heavy duty tarps to cover some equipment from weather.
I need small tarps like 10 x 15 or so.
Any advise on best place to buy and good quality?

Do you have someone in your area that makes tents and
awnings? Not the campiing tents, I mean commercial tents.

No, not that I am aware of.
Would a canvas tarp be better then vinyl?

On craigslist in central mi there is a guy selling old billboards for tarps. We have one we use to close off a old alley in the freestall barn for equipment storage. The opening is like 17wx14h has been there for 2 winters in the sun on south side.

I've used the old billboards from various guys off of ebay the past few years as hay tarps. They seem to hold up better than anything else I can buy (short of canvas) for about 2/3 the price.

I bought one ( 10" X 20" ) from a shop that makes boat tops and awnings. Before I used it, I picked up some water proof stuff from a camping store. On a nice sunny day, I spread it out and coated both sides and let it dry.
That has been the best tarp I have ever used and looks like it will last a long time. Just make sure it is clean and dry when you put it away.

Definitely.

None of the vinyl tarps you can buy these days are any good for long-term use at all. To cover something up for a few days, but not long-term.
