Question about rebuild

I'm rebuilding my Ford 861 Diesel (1958). Crank has been ground and rods re-maned. It says in the manual to replace the Pal nuts for the rod bolts. Does anyone know where I can get some new ones? I still have the old ones. Hoping to find a source.

Also, I dug the rubber grommet (fuel return line) out of the head before hot tanking it, but it's not in good shape. Anyone know how I can get a replacement for that? The kit had the lower grommet - but this one goes behind the fitting in the head

I'd leave them out and not think twice about it. There's a reason they haven't been used north of 50 years or so now.

Agree.
I've rebuilt dozens of engines, and willing to bet that of the ones using palnuts, half of them were at the bottom of the oil pan.

To answer your question about where to purchase, type palnuts into a Google search. Take your pick of vendors.

For the seal on the return line, can you provide a part number?

As far as the pal nuts I did not use them on my 58 861D when I rebuilt it two years ago, but for the return line it is part # 31140 on the cnh website but I don't know if they are available anymore.
For my return line I used a good quality o ring and it's been fine , I think I ended up using two o rings stacked but you could try calling a local cnh dealer and see. Best of luck

If I recall that return line grommet is 3/16 inch, I have those on hand along with 1/4, 5/16, and 3/8 inch line size rubber line grommets. If it leaks it will put fuel
into oil just like my 871 did a couple years ago.
