Hello

Im in the process of building a m engine. The question is do you need to put distributor gear in time with the dot cam gear? Before you put
the front cover on

Thanks tim

To time the gears the single mark on the crank gear aligns with a single mark on the cam gear. The cam gear also has two punch marks between as set of teeth, this should align with double punch marks on the distributor or mag drive gear. See pic from an early IH repair manual.

Sorry, the picture of the wording is blurry. Check your email for more helpful information. If you have yahoo or hotmail check your spam folder. I been informed the YT mail system emails get bumped there on those platforms.

Gear used on shaft of ignition drive housing and camshaft gear turns it doesn't have to be timed when using a distributor. Distibutor housing gears can be used to set distributor in time. If apart wouldn't hurt to place the gear so a magneto would be correct to line up with slot in ignition drive shaft.
