Question/problem with house painting...

Hello;

I had my house painted about four years ago with latex,and it is coming off I can see the bare wood. I know that it was supposed to be primed as I had that on the contract, but this is what I got. From tyhe looks of it it has NEVER been primed.
One of my questions is: Can you paint OIL paint over the latex? I need to put on something that has some staying power. preciate any help

If the house is a re-paint did the painter powerwash the house before painting? A house may look clean but there is a fine layer of dirt you can't see and that could affect the adhesion. Also if you live near a large city it's not uncommon to get a thin layer of oil from emissions on the house as well. If this is new wood with the paint pealing was there any treated wood involved or did it rain within a couple days prior to painting? Something went wrong with the paint or the painter did something wrong, latex doesn't normally peal like that. It tends to just turn to dust on the house. It's oil based paint which peals where you have to scrape it off before painting.

Sometimes cheap paint will fail a lot sooner than you think. If you want it to last use Duration or Emerald paint from Sherwin Williams.

To answer your question, you can put oil based paint over latex however if the latex paint is failing it will peal off taking the oil based paint off with it.
