question regarding 542b bobcat

I have a 1983 bobcat 542b 4 cyl. gas engine indust ford motor, I have checked the fuel pump and flow, and cleaned the carb. prior to this it will start and run for 30 sec and die I can not figure out what else is the problem can someone give me some advice.

Well I would inspect the ignition system. I have had a bad key switch do that. I have seen a bad coil act that way. You need to see if your are loosing fire or fuel.

One of my uncles 21A Masset combines acted that way. After changing numerous parts, my Dad said to change the battery - and that turned out to be the problem!

when she starts to die, spray just a sniff of starting fluid into the carb, if it firs and picks up you have a fuel problem

if she dies, you have ignition problem

My 453 did the same thing. It was the Pos battery cable. It looked good from the outside, but once I jumped past it it worked fine.

I have the same bobcat and it was doing the same thing. What mine was, there is a shut off and a elbow on the side of the cover well it was plugged up. I did everything that I could before I found out that this was the problem. It is not a bad idea to change all of the gas lines, I pulled out the gas tank also and cleaned it. I hope that this helps
