A two stage vertical with 60 or 80 gallon tank for me. My new one is a Champion after my Ingersol Rand bit the dust.

Both my brother & I each have one on our farms. They both work well. Mine is about 10-15 years old. My brothers about 5-10 years old. I use mine pretty hard for a farm shop. Its holding up well. Mine is a 2 stage vertical tank. I also bought an automatic valve to let the water out of the tank. I have it set to 2-3 seconds open and an hour closed. Keeps the tank dry. I highly recommend all the above.

Well when I got that price from them it was on Monday today after work when I went by they said its off sale. So I think Ill be waiting and searching around a little bit more.

Nice shop George. Shop floor clear enough to comb your hair. That is whats left anyway. Ha. Ha. Pulling your leg ole boy. Wingnut

Quincy used to be a quality product back in the day.

That does not even resemble what the old Quincy's looked like.

Looks like an iron cylinder, but could easily be painted aluminum. If it is iron, that's a plus, USA another plus. Still impossible to know how it will hold up in the long run.

The $560 price is more in line with home shop duty, which is fine if that's what you will be using it for.

Commercial, industrial duty, looking at 4x that price!

That's not a Quincy, THIS is a Quincy! :D

Just kidding...

However, the other posters are correct about the difference between the old industrial Quincy compressors and the home shop version with the Quincy name and paint.

I bought a Quincy 30 gallon for daily use in my shop in 1962. Used for hours every day. Gave it my son in 1985 and he used it sparingly until 2010. Finally, the tank started to leak from rust. I would say Quincy was a very good brand. The motor and pump still worked well.

THANKS
I hired a

crew of concrete finishers to put down a 6 inch floor, no fiberglass. wire.
It was sealed with 5 gallons of cure and seal.
Lines were cut 24 hours later.

Quincy sold out to Atlas Copco in 2010/11 and moved the IL plant models to the AL plant.
Only the larger commericial and industrial, not portable compressors are made in USA.
And many othe those are only assembled in USA with foreign and domestic parts.

The portable units are made in China as Quincy already had aplant there before AC purchase.

Just because the portables are made in China does not mean the quality is any less then USA. Since they have their own plant there, they should be able to make them to their liking.

Betting on the quality of a company's product today, based on the units they made 20 or 30 years ago is a risky assumption. Every company has made changes to their products over the years to make them competitive. I would never assume the quality of a product is the same from a company that made it years ago, UNLESS.........it is the exact same product.

Porter Cable, Black & Decker, Craftsman, and others, USED to make really good stuff. Not anymore.

By the way......ya can't expect the best quality machine when shopping for the lowest price.

Good luck in your hunt ! Keep the tank drained !

Dad has an old Quincy and they sucked to talk to for parts. It was bad enough I would not have a Quincy. All I wanted was a spring for the valve in it and some information on it. I gave them the model and serial numbers to it. Couldn't find parts nor even know what I was looking for. I've been looking at a Saylor-Beal. Just having trouble swallowing the price tag for what I need. 175PSI and at least about 15-20 SCFM. Was looking at the unloader valve head too.

CAT GUY - SON bought a 5 HP Quincy #325 80 gallon tank 2-stage. It was bought as the Original compressor for the semi-truck shop and gas station at The DECK Truck Stop Exit #19 Geneseo, Ill, I-80 and Rt 82 in 1964. They closed the shop, sold the compressor to a 3-4 stall auto body shop to run spray guns, air sanders, I'm surprised a 5 hp kept up, then it was bought as a back-up compressor for an addition to a machine shop, most new machine shop machines need a source of compressed air, lot of air activated clamping jaws, clutches, etc. The machine shop moved to a larger building and installed a new bigger rotary screw compressor. SON bought it. Hauled it home in his 3/4 Ton truck, there was a backhoe/endloader working on his driveway when he got home with it, They unloaded it and set it right in front of his garage door. He could remove a few pieces like the all copper & cast iron 5 hp motor, and 'walk' the compressor across his garage. He had removed the comoressor from the top of the tank a time or two but normally had a couple friends come over for that.
The motor and compressor and the tank sat around my shop for a couple weeks and 2 years ago I scrapped the tank and motor. The compressor is still in my shop. SON had an air compressor service shop in downtown MOLINE, ILL, that stocked a lot of Quincy parts, they knew what part fit which compressors, and if they didn't have them they could normally get them by the next day. Stuff you would be amazed they stocked. No need to deal with Quincy. Prior owner had messed with the reed valves in the head and glued everything back together with blue rtv. SON took everything apart, cleaned the goop out, bought gaskets & o-rings, rebuilt the heads, unloader, and it was much quicker coming back up to pressure. New piston rings, maybe new oil pump, yes, it IS pressure lubed, even has a guage, Some Quincy's have a spin-on filter! Quincy have 100% duty cycle, the factory on Quincy compressors made in Quincy, Ill the company prefers they run for EVER, never stop!
Quincy imports compressors now days. SON is going to buy a new tank for his, there's an electric motor shop in town that rebuilds motors, We'll see if they can get a good 5 hp or 7-1/2 hp motor for it, hone block and install new rings and it will run another 57 years.
SON had the compressor sitting about 2-3 feet from his head at 120-150 psi all night while He slept in his bed. Not sure I would have trusted a 50 year old tank that much. My Uncle was TERRIBLE with tools, bought a portable 20 gallon single stage 1 or 2 hp compressor, never drained the air tank, He comes home one day, opens his garage door and he sees daylight through the exterior wall of his garage, He can see into his basement, most of what was left of the compressor had bounced off the garage door, dented it, tank pretty much turned itself inside-out. The pump & motor ended up on a 50 gallon tank that DAD gave to me, the tank dripped water out the bottom, I never had to drain it. I bought a brand new 7-1/2 hp Porter Cable 80 gal 2-stage 26 cfm compressor. I wanted an Ingersol-Rand but they wouldn't deal.
