quitting when hot

How's the fuel filter & what's the condition of the fuel tank? Sounds like it could be starving for fuel.

Is that gas or diesel?

Isn't a 434 a diesel? thinking plunger pump for priming

it is a gas engine and the fuel tank is clean and a new filter has been installed . I will have to check the coil the next time, Thanks for the replies

Never thought about the coil because every time it quits I just walk around tractor and use the plunger on the pump a couple of times and hit the key and it fires up

Best to include the fuel type where the model used different fuel engines

Keep watch of your engine oil, the pump may be getting weak.

Ah, I thought you may have had a diesel. My vote would also go to check the coil then.

Sounds like the coil to me. Cold it'll do it's job get's hot it'll quit. That's the way a bad coil will work. If the coil is hot time for a new one. RB

This is often what happens when your coil is going bad. Coil gets hot after running for a period of time and quits working, after it cools off some it will start back working.

I once had that problem with a coil but it would take over a 3/4 hour for it to cool off and start again. Maybe it was being next to a hot block in hot weather.

Like showcrop posted, the couple coils I had go bad, had to set for a while to cool off. He hasn't said it needs to set for a time before starting. The coil isn't cooling much if it stops, he gets off and gives the fuel pump a couple strokes, hits the key and it fires up as he posted.

Does the length of time before it quits get shorter each time? Is the length of time between "quits" random?

A couple other thoughts. Possible bad connection in the wiring? Ignition switch going bad?

My earlier thoughts on the fuel transfer pump and having to work the plunger was that if the pump was starting to fail it might soon start putting some fuel/gas into the crankcase. Just something to keep watch for.
