Least expensive is best. The construction tread will wear longer on pavement and give more slippage in mud. But if you will be sending it off into the future it should look like what it is. Jim

For the weight of a backhoe and durability r-4’s. Traction r-1’s,but r-2’s are much better

Tractor tires will be 6 or 8 ply rated, and the backhoe tires will be 10 or 12 ply rated. What that means is the R4 tires are better capable of handling the heavy weight of the backhoe. The R1 tires will be at their maximum capacity, if not overloaded. For a yard machine it probably doesn't matter.

Andy,
I wish my Kubota came with Ag tires.
I may be wrong, I think Ag tires give a smoother ride.

Not sure which will give the smoother ride, but I do know Ag tires will tear up your yard worst the the R4's. The best thing you can do to smooth out the ride is fill the rear tires with fluid!

My B2650 has Ag tires on it. Surprisingly, the rear tires do very little damage to the lawn. The fronts can cause some, but having the toe in set correctly will eliminate most of that.

A friend of Dad's had ag tires on his backhoe for years with no ill effects to the tires or the hoe. They were not the kindest to tires driving over what ever was there and not being the most careful about it so tire damage was from them running over things. Not the tires fault.

True but a backhoe machine needs more rear weight like any of us need another hole in the head...

Plus, I have to think that "occasional use" means that there isn't much road travel in this machine's future...

What size is your backhoe? Full size or one of the smaller 110 machines? A full size backhoe has a lot of weight on the rear. I'd go with the R4 for the higher ply ratings.
