Has anyone ever had a problem with cottontail rabbits climbing up under the hood of cars and chewing up the wiring. My neighbor has an automotive shop and is constantly having to repair wiring. One guy has had 2 newer GMC pickups damaged,1 had a 700.00 sensor chewed up.Just curious.Ron

I would think that it would more likely be mice than rabbits. We have many cottontail rabbits in my area, but I have never even heard of one getting up under a hood or chewing wiring. I suppose there is a first time for everything.

I am positive it is rabbits,I know of 2 being caught inthe act, they were setting on top of the engine.

Rabbits are a problem where I work. I have even accidently given them a ride into the shop by having one under the hood. They have only really been a problem since the soy oil coating has been introduced. Thankfully they only seem to like vehicles that sit for long periods of time and models that allow for easy access and/or comfort of sitting on top of the transmission. I have had to repair/replace spark plug wires, mass air flow wires, ECM wire harness or O2 sensor wires three out of the last four years on a pair of 2005 Chevy venture vans.

Somewhere I have a picture of a rabbit sitting under the hood of my 2002 K2500, took me about an hour to splice the wires back together, this truck sits for weeks at a time.

That is a strange one, never seen an eastern cottontail do that around here, but there is usually plenty of food for them most of the year, not sure about winter though.

I opened the hood of my car one morning to check the oil before starting it. When I opened the hood, there was a woodchuck on top of the engine, never saw that before, maybe he got caught in the open, decided to ditch what was after him by hiding up there. The can climb trees quite well from what I have seen first hand.
