Radiator Bolts

Just started work restoring my first tractor. The one I picked is a (not running but restore-able) 1948 Model B Styled John Deere. Starting from the front, I removed the radiator and noticed that there is a variety of different bolt types. I’m talking about the bolts that hold the radiator support to the radiator core. Some are square and some are Hex head. What did the factory put on the radiator on the 1948 Bs? The Service Manual that I have doesn’t give me this sort of detail.

Hi,most likely what you have is correct.Hex bolts hold the top and bottom to the sides. Both hex and square hold the core to the top and bottom.

The bolts that connect the cast sides with the top and bottom castings are hex. Those that hold the core in place are all square (nuts are square too). The shutters are held in with machine screws with a round phillips head.
