radiator cap versus hood round 1

I recently have become the proud papa of a 1947 8N that had a blown head gasket. That in itself wasnt that big of a deal. got it fixed and running again and now I am changing out parts little at a time. Radiator cap was just your everyday run of the mill cap but it scratches the dickens out of the sheet metal putting it on and off. I picked up one of the black fan shaped caps but I cant get it on for nothin. It seems that the neck of the radiator is too deep below the hood. Has anyone come across this problem before and could give some advice. Thanks

You need the pads under the radiator and an OEM radiator. If it's an aftermarket radiator, that could be the problem. Also, is the neck centered in the hole in the hood? You get that right by adjusting the top hose. (BTDT!)

Ok so i looked at the radiator and it has no pads under the mounting bolts. i am going to try to lift it up using some old tire cutouts and see how that works out. It doesnt show any signs that the neck has been worked on and it is centered on the hole in the sheet metal.
Thanks for all the help.

Sounds familure. I recently replaced the original radiator with a new one that I ordered from YT and the radiator is having the same effect on my hood. (made in china) Not sure if your radiator is new or not but that's what is causing my problem, going to take the old radiator and have a new core put in this spring.
