Radiator mounts

I think I have a Johnny Cash tractor. It has the nose like the jubilee and a few other type parts but it looks like it's from the early 50's. Ok, the problem I"m having is I need to remove the radiator. I have the sheetmetal off and I have the radiator hoses off but the only bolts I see are under the radiator. One of the bolts or studs I got loose. The other "bolt or stud" is just spinning. Are these the only 2 mounts holding the radiator on? How can I get the bolt or stud or whatever it is out of the radiator?

Yes , only 2 bolts holding it . Soak the bolt/nut good . You may need to clamp vice grips to the very end of the bolt & then try breaking the bolt loose , running the nut up to the nut . Then clamp the vice grips to the bolt just above the nut . Now finish removing the nut . You may possibly be able to repair the threads slowly with a good clean finish tap . HTH ! God bless , Ken

The two bolts should be carriage bolts and the collar under the head should set in a sq. recess and hold the bolt to allow the nuts to be removed. Pull down on the nut and see if you can catch the collar and remove the nut.Between the radiator bottom an frame should be a sq rubber or rubber-fabric insulator they are a must, dont loose them buy or make new ones if needed. Now I have had 2 1943 War Ns that the radiator bottom bolts went up into anchor nuts in the frame of the radiator.Since you say you have a farmerized N and not sure of year this could be your setup and the anchor could have broke free. I also leave the top hose on rad and block till I am ready to remove the rad. It will keep it steady and out of the fan.

well.. a NAA IS fromthe early 50's :) stasrted in late 52 for the 53 yr model.!!

as the others said. if it is wallowed out and spinning.. you will have to split the nut or cut the shank

I just had the same problem on my 53, I cut the nut off with a dremmel tool and cutoff wheels. Was able to save the bolt. Is it the left or right side facing forward? On mine the right mounting hole (on tractor) was slotted to front.

Those bolts sit in a slot so if it just spins that slot has bent or the head of the bolt has gone bad so about the only way to remove it is to carefully cut the nut off and then when done replace both bolts so you know they are good. As for what tractor you have is it a flat head engine??? Does it have 3 or 4 speed transmission and or a picture would help us help you know what you have

The left nut, looking from the back to the front came off fine. The right nut is spinning. I"m going to try and load 2 pictures. Haven't tried this lately

I like the new way to post pictures:) Also it has a 4 speed transmission, 4 forward and 1 reverse.

The appears to be a Jubilee/NAA or such. The over head valve engine say it is for sure not a N series since the N series is a flat head engine. Look on the left side just below the battery box and you should see a flat spot there. Clean that area carefully and you should see a model number on top and a serial number below Sort of like this
641
&&^%$%&

I"ll check under the battery box and see what I can see. I"ve looked all over the tractor except inside for the numbers but maybe I'll look closer.and get lucky this time. I ended up cutting the stripped bolt and PB BLASTED the other bolt so it should come off. Off hand, does anybody know what a rediator costs for one of these tractors? I"m hopeing to be able to fix mine but..................

Another way to find those numbers is this. Lay you right hand on the clutch pedal and your left hand on the starter. Look down you should see a flat spot and that is where the numbers should be.
As for cost of a radiator this site has them and I just checked a catalog I have and it lists them new for $265.95 plus shipping

I did not look at them but do know it sure isn't an N series. But either way no matter what it is doing as I said will make it so he does know what he has

Yep it looks like it. I thought I added them but ..... Here goes again

If all else fails follow the instructions....................

In the top picture you see the 2 holes and the flat spot just above them?? Carefully clean that spot off and you will see 2 sets of number/letters the top is the modal of the tractor and will be like this and then bottom the serial number
841
*&^%^%%
I use the 841 because I own an 841 ford which is the 801 series

FINALLY WE HAVE NUMBERS!!!. They're not exaactly easy to read but here they are. 641 over 106041 Finally So I have a 641?
