Radiator Pad?

I don"t mean to sound dumb here guys but, while going through ebay, I ran across something called a radiator pad for 2n, 8n, &9n tractors. What would this be used for and why? I had never heard of it. Thanks for any info...

It goes between the top of the radiator (around the filler neck) and the hood. Keeps the two apart because the only top support the radiator has is the top hose.

KRH; If the radiator pad you saw looked like a big green square with a hole in the middle, that pad goes over the top of the radiator, with the hole around the radiator fill, just below the radiator cap. Then the hood rests on that pad so as not to let the hood down pressure rub holes in the radiator water resivior.

Hi The pad is a fiber mesh with a hole in the center that fits over the radiator fill neck and between the top of the radiator and the bottom of the hood. It acts as a stabilizer to keep the top of the radiator stationary.

Back in the days when those pads were still horsehair, the mechanics always called them a rooster nest. Now that they are synthetic (an somewhat more functional) I guess they"re just called radiator pads.
