I'm looking for a replacement radiator for my Smd and there are 2 choices a light and heavy rated from
all American ag can someone give any input on them it's a restoration tracto but would use on plow on
occasion I want to get buy reasonable price but don't want to pick the wrong one

I would buy the heavy one especially with the diesel, if it doesn't keep it cool could be costly.

If that SMD gets hot plowing you have a majorly plugged radiator. Our MD working like a dog grinding ear corn with a piece of carpet over the rad in winter will not even move the needle on the gage. And yes the gage works. Those old tractors had way more cool than needed.

I can't find this "All American Ag" to see what they sell. Google doesn't come up with anything named "All American Ag" that sells tractor parts.

Find out where each is made. Historically the ones made in China are going to be tougher to make fit, though I've bought China radiators in the past for other tractors and they fit ok.

The radiator you want would be made by Clancy Radiators out of Ireland. They make the good ones.

Lots of discussions on here about new radiators being junk and not fitting correctly. I had a choice of two different radiators for my Cub and I bought the better one. Everything lined up correctly, including a lot of bolt holes. I would spend the extra money and hope that means better quality.

Don't know about the quality of those radiators but the cheaper one is a 3 row core and the other a 4 row core. Unless they made the top tank a little lower and neck a little higher the overflow pipe location doesn't look the best. Hardly any clearance between the original radiators and the grill where that pipe goes across.

I had mine recored for around $700 I believe. The radiator man said he wouldn't trust any aftermarket radiator he could buy due to the vibration. He said I'd start seeing cracks after some years of use.FWIW

As having a few of these pigs and being that they are prone to head failure i wouldnt take any chances on a faulty cooling system. The aftermarket radiators are absolute junk, they dont hold up and start leaking and almost all dont even fit properly. Beat thing for youbto do is spend $600-700 and have a original radiator recored, most radiator shops wont even work on the aftermarkets because they are do poorly made. If it was my tractor i would also be installing new thermostat and rebuilding the original water pump (cost less then $50 to do this). Again a good cooling system is very important on these diesels. If you need help with locating parts or crossing over any part number feel free to shoot me a email as i have just finish ed a very extensive overhaul/mechanical restoration on a super md. Jim

I had mine recored with the gauge of copper I specified. Have not regretted it yet . Too important to worry about a couple hundred bucks when a cheap one could end up costing much more in long run .
