Rain gutters

No way do I want rain gutters on pole barn 14 feet of the ground. A recipe for a trip to ER at my age. So I put down a strip of zoysia grass to prevent mud from splashing on siding.
To make it easier for an old man I cut sod in 1 ft squares.

My antique has no second cutter to cut length.

So I cut in back and forth, then at right angle.

You can see how I'm cutting a little below roots.
Later I'll back fill with I left sod uncut to fill in in a tear or two.
Anyone bored my assist. Just keep 6 feet distance.

did you look in to those leaf guard gutter systems? supposed to not clog up. i just have regular gutters on my pole buildings, rarely ever have to clean them out.

Rarely isn't good enough for me.
I don't have gutters on my other pole barn either.
I'm allergic to pain.
Falling causes pain.
No thanks.

depends on whose around when you hit the ground. if there is a crowd around, i just get up and walk away like nothing happened, ya gotta look cool! . now if nobody is around i lay there for a while moaning and swearing!

I had these on my house in CT with lots of overhanging trees. They were fantastic. Never had to clean them after that. Gutters are open on my steel building here in MI but I got rid of the trees that were filling them.

O I just saw you said a tear or two, guess that works . You keep making me want to fix that cutter I sent you the photos of.. On on your other question I have the DitchWitch version of the trencher you pictured, hydrostatic drive to each side so one does not have to wrestle the steering. Keep telling you just a short drive and you can borrow it.. LOL

In thanks for the offer.
I would like to own one. Have other jobs to do. Don't have one. Like sod cutter. Don't use it all the time. Just nice to have one when I need one.
Let me know if you find one that's a good deal.

Looks good but a 2-4 foot strip of clean gravel works a lot better and you can spray the weeds that might creep up. Keeps your mower away from the building but I?m a little nuts because I refuse to use a weed eater unless there is no other option

I also put stone or river gravel around everything. Round up is the best weed eater made. I did buy a Milwaukee cordless weed eater for trimming around the wifes flowers...kill a few flowers spraying and you hear about it for years.

I use gravel and weed killer. Gravel is self draining and no problem with splashups. Grass killer keeps it gravel so that you don't have to cut/trim the grass. Easy to spread with your FEL and a shovel.

George, I've been following your progress on the shed since u started the grade work.I think you have a very nice shed. I was just wondering what brand it is. Stay healthy, Jim

There is gravel there.
Roundup will kill zoysia that gets too close.
I want grass and zoysia works .

I dislike gutters much less than I dislike having water around a building, so would go with them. IMHO, you are really overreacting to this, in your earlier posts, you stated that you had removed the trees, so should be very little in them.

I have never had any issue if you put large enough gutters on in the first place.

DAVID,
No rain gutters mean you have to make sure all rain water runs away from building not towards.
That takes some time and means you can make a mess out of lawn.
In 2008 we got about 10 inches of rain in 24 hours.
Water from a 40 acre field all ran towards house. No drain pipes could do any good.

You can't easily raise a house. Took me a long time to remove dirt from yard and make sure all rain water runs away from house and go towards gravel pit. Never have to worry about another 100 year rain. Never have water in basement.

I've done this to all my properties. Only use gutters as a last resort. No need for gutters on barn.

no way would I not have gutters, gets the moisture away and we catch the water to reuse. 54x115 gutters have never been issues on the shed built it in 1982. house did complete new gutter system on it 4 years ago or so and have the covers no issues, did not have any issue prior other than I replaced to bigger size cause of more roof area added. we catch over 2000 gal of water in very short time. reuse it all summer long
