Rain will not start 1949 8n

Is there a well-known problem when it rains hard and distributor could get wet. I put a screwdriver in a spark plug wire I got shock. Also I put my test light on the coil positive and it blinked while rotating the engine.

I am wondering if the spark is bleeding off due to dirt and humidity.. coil and cap need to be clean of dirt and scum..
Spark plug wires must NOT be cracked and breaking down... PLug connections and boots must also be clean of any dust or dirt as when moist, they will drain away the spark to ground.. Sometimes you need to crank the tractor in the dark and you can then see fire jumping everywhere except where its supposed to go. And even see cracks in the distib or wiring... with jumping glow worms.....

And lots of choke applied to get the cold mixture to go up hill into the manifold as its heavier than air when cold.

Yeah I got a lot of rain past couple days. So I'm thinking the spark is going where it shouldn't be going. Other than down the wire to the spark plug. Thanks for your info

Also I converted to 12 volt system about 2 weeks ago brand new coil points and condenser and I'm getting spark with the test light on the coil. So I think it's just something got wet thanks

Wasn't WD40 was invented to displace water to prevent the spark from getting shorted out.
I have to replace the distributor cap and rotor on my 2007 GMC truck every few years.
The people at Auto Zone say that's a common problem with the flat GM distributors..
Every wonder why new cars don't have distributors?

No rain yesterday a little breezy and she fired right up at the end of the day no problem. So I will change the distributor cap. And wires thanks

Before you replace it, try spraying it with WD-40, see if that helps it. WD-40 is a water displacement product. If your problem is water that should help prevent this from happening as badly when it rains.

Why don't you also post down in the N forum. Maybe they can offer more information on what's up, especially since it's been converted.
