Rainy Day Tractor And Planter Prep

Rain will keep us from planting until Saturday now is my guess. I am finishing servicing the 12+1370 as they are the spring tillage and planting team. Installed a light
bar guidance system in the 13, have never used any before so this should be interesting. If I like it I will swap it to the 12 for spraying. The corn planting units are
at the dealership getting run on a test stand for accuracy. They should be done tomorrow. By Saturday I everything should be ready to roll. Rod.

Sure wish it would rain here. Maybe I would get some help washing sap buckets. I got the 700 that I had washed consolidated into 25 bkt stacks and another 550 washed and stacked to dry today.
Weather watchers say we might get a light rain by the weekend. I hope I'm done with buckets by Sunday night.

Rod, You will love the light bar once you get to know it. I spray and plant with mine, pitched the foam marker on the sprayer. Those are some mighty nice tractors you have. We are cold and rain do in tonight and tomorrow.

Jerry that is good to know you like yours, I was reluctant to make the move to something more modern simply because I got along fine without. But spraying has really been a pain in the a$$ lately, this should help. Rod.

Loren the wifey and I were just talking about all those buckets you guys use every year. We wondered if they got washed out. Man I did not like washing the ten we have. The places that use all the hoses to collect, do they ever get flushed or changed? Rod.

Rod,
You will like the gps but watch out, that stuff if addictive. I was able to get 40% of the corn in last weekend and was having voltage issues causing the ezsteer to kick out.....I forgot how to follow the marker and am pretty sure the combine driver will not be happy with me this fall. Need to clean the battery posts and take care of the other connections before it dries out again.

Your horses sure look nice and have inspired me to put some more elbow grease into my 2590.

There is nothing with finger meters. Precision units in good shape plant pretty accurately. I pull a 10rn 7000 behind my 1070. When you store your meters have a paddle to each side of the opening and not in the middle. That way there won't be a finger under the brush. There used to be several people around here that planted with 70/90 series Case tractors. I still use the 10 and a neighbor uses a 2290. My former 1570 used to pull a 16rn 7000 jd when another neighbor owned it. Many went to bigger planters and needed more hydraulics. Another friend used to pull a 12rn with a 1370 but with fertilizer and chemical tanks it worked it pretty hard so he started using his 7120. All a far cry from Dad's 830 low profile com diesel and 494 jd we planted with years ago.

Hi Rod, what is the black between the radiator cap and the grill on your 13? Its been a rain event all day long here today. Last I looked we had 1 inch and on monday we had an inch so things are soaked up pretty good.Looks like it would be clean and fun to crawl on board of either one of your 70series. Darrell

Concerning the washing of sap lines: I have vacuum on mine and when I pull taps, I suck a couple ounces of 8% Hydrogen Peroxide thru each drop line, which travels thru the lateral, into the main line and eventually finds its way to the releaser that sits over the bulk tank. Takes about a gallon of solution for every 100 taps. The lines stay fairly clean all summer and fall.
Bigger producers don't do anything but pull them, and the following spring, let a half day of sap run on the ground to clean most of the gunk out before they start saving sap. Others collect it, gunk and all, and just boil it.

I have used this planter for 25 years now. Everyone wants to sell me a different one but no one will say the newer one will get better yields than this one. Newer can plant more and faster with less stops to fill but no one gets better crops.I have rebuilt this twice and have no intent to switch till something better comes along. Rod.

Hi Darrell, the black screen on the 13 is a upper front screen for a 1370. I cut a hole in the top of the hood and installed the screen over it for more radiator air flow. It does help, if the fronts get full of husk it still gets air on top and heating issues are not a problem anymore. Does not suck as much into the radiator area any more either. Rod.

Good to see you got some planting done, our forecast looks cold and wet for a week. Your rig looks good. Rod.

Nice rig! witch antenna do you have for your GPS? I have an EZ guide 250 also, it has been a good unit, but the original antenna was not very accurate in its readings witch caused a lot of variances when in use, I up graded the antenna, and have much better luck with it now. I just use mine for spraying. Mike

I have always said that when the corn is 4-6 in. tall that you could look crosswise on the field and tell if a finger planter planted it------spacing like a picket fence.......Tee
