ram 250 ideas

I need to make a few repairs on that 3/4 ton Cummins dad and I got. The brake pedal is bungee corded to the steering column for a return spring, would that be a bad booster, or master cylinder? Or should I just do both?

I'd also like to eventually put in a sub-trans. So I can have low gearing for towing, and higher gearing for highway cruising. Any ideas where to look?

Also, would it hurt to put a coolant filter on this, something like you would find on a 966?

Scot, there is a website called Diesel Truck Resource which specializes in Dodge/Cummins, you may find a lot of good info there. I believe Gear Vendors(?) makes over/under drive addons of various types. DTR will have further data. Good luck.

My son put a sub-trans. on his 98 Dodge. Not sure where he got it from. I know he had a shaft special made for it. He said it worked good in it. He put it in a different truck he bought but had a vibration with it so he took it back out of that one. He might of had it set a little off or something that it did that. Not sure if he wants to sell it or not.

What I am thinking is moving to a medium rear end gear, then putting a 3 speed OD behind the 3 speed auto. That way I would have towing gears, regular working gears, and highway cruising gears. It has to be a few years off yet, though, but thanks.

Right now, the top speed is about 65, but I have no idea what gears are actually in it.

You didn't say what year or what tranny. Regardless, if you only have enough torque for 65 mph then another higher gear will probably put you at 60ph! What rpm ypu got at 65?
I think you need to get it on s dyno. Either the injector timing is way off or the valve adjustment is bad. Did you cahnge the fuel filter?
My 12Valve CDT with 5 spedd is turned up a little and it will do 95 easily at about 2600 rpm.

90 with the 727 auto. Wound tight at 60-65. I'm not going to swap in a faster governor spring, with 223,000 on the clock.

I've looked around and I think I will eventually swap in a 518 and divorce-mount gear vendors.

with a 3 speed auto being toped out at 65 it must 4.10 gears in it. A freind of mines 90 is like that. my 91 with 5 speed will get about 70-75 with 3.73. but I do see the need for a two speed. i am not sure about the brake pedal but I have seen many trucks in the bone yards like that must be a Dodge thing. Maybe a 3 speed OD will help but you can beat those old Dodges and Iam a Chevy guy saying that. Chevy 73-87 not the JUNK they are building today
