Heard that story a few times, 'Ran when parked' 50 years ago.

I've heard about equipment sinking into unstable ground but usually there isn't a building sitting on it that close. It appears someone took the time to grade up around the tractor after it 'sunk' into the ground. Definitely a unique photo.

i think it is more of a cut off to set on the ground a pipe driven into the ground would hold the muffler. Same with the light tree and steering I suppose some of it could have been set in as a unit to make it easier though I doubt it.

My wifes Grandpa from Okland Neb. use to dig up stationary engines and get them running. He was the best mechanic around that area. There was nothing he couldnt get to run.

Maybe but I think it would be much faster and easier to dig hole with skidder and bury it whole. By time you had the rear wheels/tires cut I could have the whole tractor buried.

Maybe but, I think that one in the first picture is running.....I'm pretty sure see smoke coming from the exhaust

We had a extremely wet winter one year and everyone was having trouble getting they're nitrogen applied to the winter wheat here. Grandaddy had bought a JD B for parts years ago and the sheet metal was only good on one side. We took that side of the tractor with the steering column, seat, muffler, and the tops of a tire and layed it out accordingly on the ground like in the picture in the edge of the wheat field close by the road. People were stopping by so frequently to help pull us out that we had to take it back up. Made for some good laughs for a bit.

No doubt in my mind that someone could mire a tractor up past the axles in such a limited space. With stupidity anything is possible.
