stumbled on this while at a amish equipment dealer near Topeka Indiana looking at a tiller and wagon.

looks like it says Cockshutt 311. At first I figured it was an Oliver in Cockshutt red but I'm not sure.

they are asking $750 for it.

Pretty sure it was an Oliver. A neighbor had one along with a Cockshutt tractor that he bought new. We had a dealer right close by for them.

I think the 311 was all Cockshutt, but I could be wrong. There are similarities to the Oliver 107/207, but I don't know if they were exact.

And that's a lot of money for an old rake. Guess the Amish have been hit hard lately, but it's hay season. If you need it, you need it.

I have a Oliver similar to that but it has a transmission

some stuff he has is reasonable. other stuff is on the high $$ side. never bought anything there so don't know if he negotiates much or not.

The 311 is an all Cockshutt rake. An oddball for sure, especially here in the states. The Oliver 107 which is a straight axle like that one has a gearbox drive not chain. The Oliver 207 is chain drive but the clutch system is different and it uses an offset axle.

I was using a 311 for the past 6 or 7 years. Solid machine with simple chain drive instead of gearbox. Bought it for $500 CAD. The lift crank nut stripped so I bought an acme nut, drilled out the center to make it a stub acme and set height, then used a 3pth draw bar to adjust height from then on. The main bearings got so worn that the bar bearing nuts contacted frame. Got tired of the knocking sound and picked up a NH55 from same era instead of putting money into the 311. Teeth and bar bearings appear to be interchangeable. Some guys put a hydraulic lift on the 311. Grab the end reel disks and check the bearings for slop.

I have one just like it and it works good. Sure has a simple drive. Mine says that it is a Minneapolis Moline. Neighbor has one too.
