Been there before. I don't know if the drum is still available new from Case, some of them are dicontinued now. If you get a used
one, inspect it very throughly, as age and hours are catching up to them. Where I live, this failure sometimes results in the end
of the units life as it costs more to repair than they are worth, unfortunately. Good luck and have fun repairing it, I always
enjoyed powershift repair jobs!!!

Thanks, is there anything in particular that will cause this type of failure. It also had a broken clutch disk the c1 pack. I'm not sure if it happened at the same time or not. I would really hate to put it back together and then bust it again.

I am in Effingham Il Have a 2670 that power shift was working good when we pulled engine. Will sell cheap. You must remove.

Something got between a plant. gear and the ring gear. You might find a tooth or a screw missing that has fallen out of place when you tear it down completely. Rod.

Thanks Jerry, I may be interested in that deal. Are you wanting to sell the whole tractor or you willing to sell me the guts out of the power shift? I'm about 5 hours from you which isn't terrible. I have no problem driving up there and pulling the guts out myself if you got it sitting around with the engine already out. I haven't disassembled mine any farther yet as I have a terrible head cold and don't feel like fooling with it today. My number is 606-202-1522 is want to call or text. Thanks.

Rod, I'm sorry to continue to beat a dead horse. I was just wondering if I could get your thoughts on the busted c1 clutch plate as well. You think it happened at the same time or was it not related? I'm just trying to learn all I can about the power shift as a whole. For one I'm fascinated by them, and two, I like to farm but can't afford newer equipment and I like doing my own mechanic work. Also, a friend of mine down the road has a 2670 that will barley pull and stops if you push the brake. I'd like to be able to help him fix his as well.

I doubt the C1 disc broke at the same time as the other problem. They do break but not frequently. The ones that break seem to have worn internal splines. If they are sloppy on the hub I would replace them. Good to hear you want to keep it going, I try to do the same. Rod.

I wonder of one of the three allen bolts that hold the ball bearing into the drum behind sun gear came out and went through the gears? They should be loctited in on assembly. On disassembly, check that same ball bearing to see how it fits in the planet carrier, it should be snug, we have had a machined sleeve installed on some worn ones to repair this. Also, remove all the planet gears and inspect their shafts they rotate on for the hard surfacing coming off, be sure the shafts fit well in the carrier also. As for the C1 clutch, as the other fellow mentioned, its not too likely a related problem. On the other 2470 that is not pulling its power, perhaps the torque limiter on the flywheel is slipping? I have seen all sorts of those failures from loose bolts holding the belleville spring, to a broke belleville spring, to plain worn out discs. Hopefully some other fellows will chime in with any other ideas, as there is no such thing as too much knowledge.

So just for giggles, I tore my planet carrier apart tonight. I had notice one of the planet gears didn't feel right. The needle bearing was completely gone from it, not even any remains of it inside the gear. A couple of the others look scuffed but all the needles were still in place. What would cause this type of failure? I'm sure a piece of the bearing is what got between the gear and the drum causing it to bust as Rod had mention in an earlier post.

I have seen the bearings failing causing pin damage but never
seen a gear with no trace of one. Could be the needle retainer
broke and just allowed everything to fall out. More than likely a
freak failure that you could not have prevented anyway. Rod.

I had a needle bearing failure in the hydraulic pump of my 54 DC chore tractor last week. Most likely 30,000 hours on it. Pump worked fine till it inhaled the needles. Pretty much trashed the entire pump drive. Parts from an organ donor and 2 hours and back to chores.

Thanks, Rod. I was worried if this was a common occurrence or not. All the planet gears felt great in the one from the donor tractor so I didn't disassemble it and inspect them. I also notice when I removed the shaft of the gear that had no bearing in it, the split pin that holds the shaft in place was also broken. It appeared to have been sheared into and the shaft had spun in the carrier.

Help!!!! I got my engine back in this morning, fired it up and tried out the powershift. I’ve done something wrong, the pressure gauge on the dash is barely on the edge of the green from the yellow. It shifts in to reverse and 1,2,3 fine, but in 1 and reverse it barely pulls. Shift to 2 it takes right off, what did I put together wrong. Everything sounds good, inching pedal functions fine. I haven’t checked any pressures yet, but I didn’t mess with the control valve. Anyone have any ideas???
