Re 5000 Ford

First a big thanks to everyone for the advice back on Aug. 1. Removed head and found that the head gasket had blowned.
Ordered new head gasket from new holland per Berns advice the tin one. Cleaned everything up good and installed all new gaskets and
thermostat. It had already been sleeved standard size. Cut 40 acres of hay with it this past week and used it to rake also. Tractor
ran great and temp stayed good and no problems.

The reason the gasket blew is because it had a thin gasket in it. The reason why I suggested you put a thin one back in is because it would have been impossible to start in the winter time if you replaced it with a thick one. Rechecking head bolt torque sometime soon would be a good idea.

Mine started weeping antifreeze, the head bolts weren't off by much, but retorquing took care of it.

I have no idea the history of my 5200. Bought it years ago at an auction 50% of the tractors had a basket of parts by them not running. This one was running. My favorite tractor!

It does not like starting first time in the day. Runs like a champ otherwise, starts easy the rest of the day. Could be lots of little issues going into that.
