I appreciate all of the advice received from my earlier posting about putting an alternator on my Allis C. Went to pick up an alternator & took your advice Old & asked for a small body type Delco 10SI - all this shop had in stock was a Delco 10SI regular size. Tried to get it to fit & it appears that I could possibly get it mounted but not have room for the tightener with the chicken roost steering arm. Am going to return this & have them order me the small body type if they can. This will hopefully solve my problem? Just wondering if any one has a picture of a complete wiring diagram for wiring a C up with an alternator? Thanks for all responses.

the 10 SI is not a small body. It was the standard used by GM till about 1985. The newer model is calls CS 130. They are about 1 inch smaller in diameter and will fit better. They wire up very similar. You have a lug on the back that takes a #8 wire to the ampmeter or battery to charge. You have a 2 pin plug on the side that has one hot wire that goes to the lug on the back, and a second wire that is the signal wire to start charging. That comes from the ignition switch or toggle on switch. Need a resistor in this line to drop voltage slightly.

They do in fact make what I call a small body 10SI it is one that is rated at around 35amps and is smaller them the common 45 amp or bigger one. It was used on some of the older small cars but do not remember which ones for sure maybe the chevvet which as a small one.

On one of the ones I have the guy before me bent the steering rod out so the alternator would fit and on the other one I did something with the bracket so as to raise the alternator up some and that helped a bit. I also opened up the water pump pulley all the way and then used as short a belt as I could locked the alternator out so the belt was sort of tight then closed the water pump pulley to tighten it the rest of the way. Thanks Old & Steve - for your thoughts & help on my project. The wire diagram looks great Steve. Old, sometime I'll try to email you to get your # & give you a call. Think I may still try to fit this one on there before I take it back. Looks like it'll work, but will be real close.
