Thanks much for the advice, Old & Steve. The diagram looks good, Steve - I have a magneto on mine. I assume I would follow the wiring diagram except for the wire going to the distributor? Old, I will try to email you sometime and get your # so that I can call you. I think I may try to get this alternator to work - it looks like it'll be close. Your thoughts on how you'd mounted the one make sense - will give it a try.

Since you have a mag one way to wire it up that works well and is a no fuss set up is to install an oil pressure switch that kicks on around 5psi that way when you start the tractor and pressure goes up to over 5psi it in turn turns on the excite circuit of the alternator and when pressure drops below 5psi it turns it off so no extra switches you would have to turn off and on. I use that set up on mag ignition tractor all the time

i use a double pole, double throw toggle switch on my Bs. Toggle up and you disconnect the kill wire on the mag and turn on excitation to the alternator. Toggle down and you turn off excitation to the alter and ground the mag... all in one switch.
