My favorite baling tractor is a White 2-105. Three speed power shift sure is nice (and the way it coasts in low, makes for stacker-friendly down shifts).

Neighbor comes and bales my straw with a 620 and 3xx baler with a 40 or so thrower on it.

He’s talked about it enough I understand your mention of replacing pto knuckles. The 2 bangers really hammered on those knuckles with the two big pulses of power.

There was a 60 around here, but I never saw it on the baler. Always a WD45. The negative part of that was sometimes not a slow enough gear.

Back in the 40's grandpa hired his baling done.Grandpa mowed and raked with Ford 2n and later an 8n. The guy that did the baling had an Allis roto baler and a
Case DC.

In the 70's my dad had a John Deere A, Farmall M and WD9. On the flat ground he used his John Deere A on his Massey no.3 baler. On the hill side the A would run
out of poop. Dad used his WD9 on the hill. In 1974 dad bought an Allis Chalmers WD45 diesel for the baler. The Allis had no problem going up the hill. The Farmall
M was sold and the John Deere was the mowing tractor from them on.

No need to study it. I was the youth driving the tractor, and I didn't have the knowledge to do that then. No one ever instructed me on it.

We pulled our JD 24T with our Oliver 77 great baling tractor,smooth running motor.

My uncle used a later A on JD baler, probably a 214 with Wisconsin engine. It really had too fast gears if hay was heavy. I used my onl sunstyled G on a NH 280, pto baler one time. It handled it really well other than occasionally if you had a slug you had to kick it out of gear. Otherwise it ran the baler much smoother than other smaller tractors I had used.

Baled tens of thousands of bales with dads 620 JD and a NH 273 and 310 baler with
an automatic stooker...don't recall replacing u joints.

When I was in high school in NW Iowa back in late 50's early 60's we baled many thousands of bales with a 1952 A in front of a New Holland 68. Dad drove and 2 of us kids stacked them on the wagon rack.

We baled for several years with a JD B
pulling a Oliver 60t and later a Hayliner
268. Handled it well. Currently using a
MF 180 on a NH 268. Both tractors pulled
a wagon behind baler, but with JD we
stuck to fairly level fields.

When I was growing up, my uncle baled
with a 14T and a JD 50. He would never
trail a wagon behind. I was surprised how
well the B handled heavier baler and a
wagon load of hay.

300 utility pulling a 50T with a cub engine. Originally Dad used an 8N to pull the baler. Upgraded to super 68 on 300U. Baled for neighbors, 460 on a 24T baler, put a lot of hay through that, used to stack
loads. Other was a super 69 pulled by a 930 case. loaded wagons, big heavy bales, 18 foot long wagons.

Baled many thousands of bales with an IHC #45 baler pulled by a JD A, JD B, and JD D on fairly level land. No live power on any of them, but you learn to be quick on the clutch and gear shift. Never any drive shaft problems, had the same baler for 35 years.

We always liked the 2510 or 3020 Deere on the 24t. Have baled with the 2040. My wife likes the 2520 as it is side console. With my farmers lung I have taken a liking to the 4230 with cab and electric controls on the baler. My 24t is down for repairs so today we baled 2 small loads with the 2510 and a 214t without a bale thrower. Glad it was only 2 small loads. Tom

Growing up we used a JD 50 on a 24T. I now use a CaseIH 65 on a NH.65 baler.

The 2 cyl. models with live pto the pto shaft is offset. The hitch needs to be swung over to line it up and a certain distance out too. This will help the driveline live longer.

We used to custom bale about 50,000 square bales a year, with a D-15 series 2 and a new holland 273 baler. Rarely dropped a bale
for 10 years.

I like using our Ford 6610 with New Holland 315 baler and wagon behind the baler. You have a better view than the Ford 4410 and the 6610 has power steering so you can turn on a dime depending how fast you can turn the steering wheel. Our New Holland 68 baler is nice, but it puts out a smaller bale. We ran the baler with the Ford 4410.

The Green dealers are too far away, but the guy that sells the Orange stuff is only 20 minutes by tractor on back roads, and the parts man is my next door neighbor.

Grew up loading a lot of hay behind a JD A and a 62T Oliver baler,pulled the wagon behind just worked away from the bigger hills with much of a load.Never remember any PTO drive line issues with the two banger.In 1969 dad bought a new 656 hydro diesel,nice game changer!

We had a John Deere 224 Wire baler. Come baling time we took the wide front end out from under the 706 diesel. Put the narrow front on it. With plenty of power, and the TA, it made the perfect baling tractor. My dad said it was as essentially " A big M "
