Thanks everyone. It's running after a few more bumps. Even at 14*, it started on the 1st rev. I'll replace that starter asap.

If it is the bendex being dirty or oily just pull it off and clean it up or maybe just install a new bendex. Ya if the starter is spinning slow ya maybe then you do need to replace or rebuild it

I think the starter spins pretty good. You have any idea who sells a good one? This is a 47 2N front mount, still 6 volt.

I mean just the bendix, or is that what your referring to? I know this bendix flew apart once about a year ago. Parts got lodged in the clutch.

Yes bendex and or starter any of the 3 places I said should have one

Thanks Old. Since just putting on a new bendix for now, I thought I'd try to rebuild the starter also while it's on the bench. Parts have been ordered.

Right. I asked for the starter rebuild kit for the 2N and a bendix from this site.

Been thinking I should add a hand crank to the tool box...just in case. Have one for sale? This is a 47 2N 6V front mount.

I've heard that also Ed but have cranked my IH for many years back when so I have no fear at the moment. Never seemed to know when the IH would light up but this Ford is consistant on starting on the first spin.
