Thanks for the update Jim - I was wondering how your project turned out. Interesting idea of using hydraulic pressure to break free a stuck cylinder.
 
I would be interested in how the process using hydraulics to free the pistons went. Were the rods removed or still on the crank? Any idea on the amount of pressure used?
 
With that much pressure I'd think it could turn into a disaster real fast if it is really stuck.
 

I hope you plan on replacing the O ring seals at the supply for both main & road bearings.
If not you had better plan on revisiting this repair job soon be for you ruin the crank..
 
We were very carefull and I guess lucky. Left piston was about 3/4 of the way to the top so we picked that one. We pushed it watching the crank under the cover and stopped before it reached bottom. Then we went to the other side and pushed it back. Then it was free enough to pull the Pistons.
 
Rods were connected. The 530 that was the donor was just idling and didn't seem to phase it much. I have no idea of the amount would be. My brother has had succes with this method in the past.
