rear axle seal leaking

1952? A has a leak on the left side where the axle goes into the frame and it is slobbering on the wheel. i am assuming there is a seal in there. how difficult are those to fix?

You will need to remove the Powerlift assembly. Take the nut off the axle, remove the bull gear, and remove the axle. The seal that is leaking will be found inside the axle housing there. The felt on the outside is just a dust seal, not intended to stop oil.

I have been involved in my good friend's 35A axle seal replacement and my 39B which is pictured and you can tear it apart by yourself but it is a two man job getting the axles back in and bull gears installed.

The others are correct in that you must pull the axle and bull gears to get to the oil seal. It is a two man job but I did replace these on my 34 A by myself. So it can be done by one but is much easier and quicker with a second person.

didnt see that coming. a bit more involved than i had thought it would be. that might have to be a wintertime project. i seen a tractor at the pull that had a rag tied around the axle.to soak up the excess, might have to go that route for now.thanks for all the good info...
