Rear end lock up

i have new 2 n ford pick up for cheap " free" ..
when pull with the tractor and the right wheel
turn free but left turn backward an lock up and
drag for a few feet then back run backward what
going on

Normal for standard differential, hope this helps.

sounds like it has a differental that is working ( shocker! )... and it is in gear... trans input shaft can't spin.. so that leave yer rear wheels. one wants to spin one way.. the other wants to spin opposite... no magic there..

found some teeth in bottom of trans and rear end major of big stuff was at the read end of the tractor.... so it look like salvage... hate do it too these...

If you don't want to part it out....
before you scrap it,
especially if the tires hold air,
put a for sale sign on it, noting the broken trans-rearend.
Ya might be surprised........
