I am making a trailer to tow behind my tractor for Parades , Tractor shows and such . It has 3 Benches mounted to it so people can ride along and see the show . I am using an old rear end and axles . I took it for its Maiden Voayge this weekend and the rear end whined pretty loud after a short time . I found it was dry and I put some gear oil in it and figured I was all set. Well when going in my shop Sunday Morning i found the gear oil on the concrete floor . It seems I mounted the rear end upside down and it has vents , which drained all the oil . Theres a drilled hole in one of the axle tubes and one in the front tube thats been made to cover where the drive shaft used to attach . Can I just plug /weld these holes closed since I will not be doing any fast driving and maybe very little use 2 or 3 times a year ? I seem to think it will be ok to close them up , but I need some advice here . Thanks everyone ...
