Rear Fluid 1755

I removed what I thought to be a check plug. I got about 8 gallons of fluid out. Tractor is a 1975-6 1755 Cockshutt.

Did I drain something, or do I have an internal issue, seal, etc. bad?

Thanks,

Bill

I hope you saved that oil. Try, after sitting a few days, cracking open the drain plug and see how much water runs
out. gm

Thanks Gary. I did save it. Do you think that I should have drained it all? I ordered a service manual, but in the meantime, was that much oil supposed to come out?

Thanks again,

Bill

First things first. I would crack open the/a drain plug and see if water doesn't trickle out. If it does I'd left it run until pure oil runs out. I' m not familiar with that specific tractor. It may have more than one drain plug. I'd check them all for water, then I'd put back the oil I'd drained from the check plug. You'll figure it out.

That is the oil level check plug. The plug under that is the oil level check plug when operating the PTO on slopes. I see the tractor has a dual speed PTO. There is another >8-10 gallon of oil in the tractor. There are 2 drain plugs.

That's making me feel better. My manual is scheduled to arrive soon. I was thinking that this was the rear diff fluid, and I was getting WAY too much fluid out.

I just bought this tractor, so I'll be changing all fluids and filters just to know that it is as it is supposed to be at a given point in time.

I appreciate all of you making comments. Hopefully I'll be able to return the favor sometime.

I don't have the info offhand, but I thought the rear end capacity for the 55 series was 11 gallons or so. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

How thick was the oil? Supposed to be 80-90 weight. If it is thin you could be getting hydraulic oil in it which could explain the extra oil. Keep an eye on the hydraulic oil level, if you have to constantly add to it that's your problem. Not good to run those rear ends with the thinned out oil.
