i have a 49 8n but have a chance to buy a spare hyd. pump from a 9n (the one the pto goes threw in side rear end. what would be the difference, do they interchange?

Not really - linkage is different - you'd have to replace the top works as well.

Thot you meant a PTO driven pump, I've got one and have a plan for it !!

No - they do not interchange - the 9N has no provision for position control and as others have said the linkage is completly different. The base castings are different as well.
