Rear tire pressure.

Hi, I have a 135 with loaded rear tires. I haven"t been able to find a recommened tire pressure in my shop manual. There is 12psi in them now and there is a fair size bulge in the sidewall. Thanks Tracy

Hi,
I have looked in my UK 135 Operator's Manual and MF workshop manual. No specific information is given. It seems that you would have to contact the tyre manufacturer and give a load figure that will be carried in order to find out what pressure you should use. Seems a bit like passing the buck but of course MF would not be able to give figures for every make of tyre. From my experience the valve should be positioned at the top and just enough air added to bring the tyre to nearly full inflation height so that it will run with just a minimal deformation. The pressure is likely to be in the 10 to 15 psi region. Use of an air/water gauge is recommended if you have one.

Thanks David, I just ran into an old IH mechanic and asked him what he thought. They used to park the tractor on a good concrete floor and add air until the outer corner of the lug would start to raise up. This was usually around 16-18 psi depending on the make of tire. I will give this a try and see what takes place.

I may be wrong but I have always ran 12 PSI rears and 18 front on all my tractors unless it is equipped with a loader. Seems to work out fine for me.

Hi Phil,
I would think that 18psi might be a little low especially if you don't have PAS. Always kept my 135 fronts at about 30 with or without the loader. Didn't have PAS!!! Did have strong arms though!!!!
Cheers

I like soft tires. I don't care that I have a bias ply tire with sidewalls bulging. I am not driving it down the highway at 75 mph in 120 degree heat with 10,000 # on it.

I use 30 on fronts due to the fact that some of my tractors (Fords) are manual steering. I run 18 or less in rears. My tires, I can run what I want and these numbers are what my old back wants.

I just did a search on Google and found this article. If you are not confused now read the article and you will be.

I have used the business card trick to set mine. You air them up til you can fit a business card under the outer lug, then deflate until the card is hard to pull out. Check pressure and set the other tire to the same pressure.

Not sure about road manners, but I do get great grip.

Depends on what you do with it! I read(somewhere) 12psi in the rear for normal use but 15 if you pull a heavy trailer. Some folk like "em softer than 12 for ploughing.
As for the front 25 for normal use but up to 30 with the loader. That"s what I use and I"m happy.

But also depends on tyre condition. Great care needed not overinflate rear tyres. There have been fatalities. Sidewall should carry recommended maximum pressure.
