Rear Tire Size

Messed up a rear tire on my 8N this evening, I know where a set of 13.6-28 tires are, would they work satisfactorily? Just a wondering, thanks!

Onsolowe........original 8N rear ag-bar tire size is 10-28, (now called 11.2-28) with 10-28 rims. While some have gone up 1-size, (12.4-28) on original 10-28 rims, I don't think you can fit the much bigger 13.6-28 tire on 10-28 rim. They really require 13-28 rim. You doubt? It will even tell you molded into the sidewall of the ag-bar tire, required rim size. .......Dell

Yep, its a sad to say, but Dell is right.You might even have an issue seating the bead on 10-28 rims

And the lift arms will hit the tires if you don't pull in the chain stops

I would keep the OEM 11.2 X28" on it. On an 8N reverse gear is fast enough as it is without putting bigger tires on.

They can be made to work but at two sizes oversized, the ground speed will be increased significantly while fender clearance will be reduced significantly. Finally, while 13.6s can be mounted on your 8N rims, 13.6s really need 12 " rims for proper operation.

As the others have said they are a bit wide for the rims and also can cause other funny problems to boot. Yes people use them but ground speed will increase and that is a problem already with the Ns. So what size do you have on now and did you just mess up one or 2. Depending on where you are I may have one on hand and I am in Missouri as you name seem to say about you

Onslowe........didja know you can gitt "rubber boots" to patch most side-wall splits and tears??? That and new or patched innertube and yer $500 ahead of NEW tires or too-wide tires that don't fit. Isn't that amazing??? ......Dell

Thanks for the tire wisdom. Had a matched set of 11.4's on it, one started going down during a tractor rodeo, trying to get a stubborn cow up with it from the pasture, didn't really realize or feel it till I put the tractor in the barn, got off and the tread was separating from the carcass, dangitol! On the upside, got the cow in!

Recently acquired a 8N with 13.6-28 with 10" rims and after reading a statement on this forum that a 12" rim is better, that the 10" will give trouble sometime. Just what kind of trouble can I expect. This N is used solely for "tractor rides" in overdrive. THANX

For what your doing you will probably not have trouble but if your pulling a lot and or working in the dirt the fact that the side walls do not sit like they should can cause them to rip from stress and also your traction is not as good because the tire does not sit as flat as it should.
