rear wheel adjustments

I have a '61 140 that I bought from a friend - still waiting for him to find the manuals he got with it. At present, the rear wheels appear to be set at their widest, with the front end as narrow as it will go. I am going to have to change the rear since the heavy wheel is presently on the left, so I was wondering how many different rear width configs there are??

Chip: 44", 48" and 52" with wheels dished in, and 56", 60", 64" and 68" wheels dished out. You can add 40" to dished in if rear tires are not too large. That applies both front and rear.

Hugh, with the wheels set to the widest configuration, would the 140's hillside stability compare to, say, a utility like a 424 in normal width configuration? I raise this question because we are looking at a house with 10 acres of up and down hill-side land.

By the way, I"ve been a bit scarce on the Farmall board the past two months as I have been preoccupied with buying and now using a two-wheeled BCS diesel engined tractor. It sure is a sweet machine for gardening. The fuel tank only holds 1.2 gallons. I've run it with a tiller, rotary plow and flail mower for about four plus hours and have used only approximately a half tank of fuel. It is easy to see why commercial greenhouse folks run these little two-wheeled tractors with diesel engines.

Bill: I ran my 130 on 68" centers one summer, I think it would have slid down a hill sideways without fear of upset. I do have concerns that front end and final drives, become the weak point once they are set that wide.

I've run these tractors a lot of years and on some very rough teraine on either 52" 0r 56" wheel tread. I think at 60" and wheel weights they will match a 424 same width.
