Rear Work Light

Hi All. On my '52 8N, it looks like there was at one time a rear light on the left fender and has been "ripped" off. I'd like to replace the light to be able to see where I'm plowing snow this winter. My tractor has been converted to 12 V. Other than appearance, is there any reason that I HAVE to get the 100+ dollar 8N rear 12V work light or could I get a 12V LED light for this?

Unless you are fully and originally restored for parades and shows, a 12v LED will give you more light for the amps being used; if mine ever burns out, that will be my choice.

I agree with Jim that a modern LED would be a logical choice. And if you want to go original later, it would be no big deal to swap in a different light.

I was just thinking about updating my lights to LED. Does anyone have a place where I can buy LED bulbs that would fit in my standard N series light housings?

I don't have a source for lights that fit the original housing but
[b:fc25ce36bb]these[/b:fc25ce36bb] are the ones I recently bought off eBay to put on my cab.
The housings are metal so they may rust. I guess I'll find out.
Obviously I haven't used them long enough to comment on how
long they will last or what vibration will do to them yet.
They certainly are bright though. They are two wire lights with
a very heavily sheathed cable. I had to cut the sheathing back a
bit to hook them up the way I wanted and it is tough stuff.
~$12 for two, $38 for four, $40 for six. I needed three for the
cab, can use two more for another tractor and have a spare.

Kenockee 8N,No,It is your tractor you can put any kind of lights(LEDs would be a great choice) you want on the back fenders. You might even put one on each side for extra light while plowing snow, even red tail lights if you want to.

It used to be harder, now even wallymart has a selection of LED replacements that will work if the tractor is 12 volts. The 6 volt LED replacements are a little harder to find but I found the ones I wanted at superbriteleds.

Thanks guys! I bought a cheap 6 bulb, 18W LED at TSC and put it on last night. Holy cow is that thing bright! We are supposed to get 5-8" of snow this weekend so I wanted to be able to see what was going on out back if we get the kind of snow they are predicting. For the less than 30 dollars total between the light and a swith, I'd say it's worth a try.

My tractor is 12 volt. Tractor is a working tractor and not a show queen but still something abort not wanting to take off those stock lights from Grandpa's tractor. If I find something that will go inside I will update.

If you want a repop of the original only in 12-volt style, Dennis Carpenter makes it, p/n FDF-15514-12V; or, if you want a sealed beam style, he sells one in 12V for $13.95, p/n 8N-15514-12V. Bear in mind with the sealed beam style you will have to do some rewiring. Industry standard 6-volt sealed beam lamp is p/n 4510. Don't know where you got that $100 price tag from...here?

Tim, that 100 price was from here and Steiner. I guess they have one for 86 as well.

It's starting to snow here and we are supposed to get anything from 6-10 inches today. It'll be interesting that this will be my first time moving snow with my N.

I used an old Unity spot light (think Kustom car stuff) with an old T3 bulb. Used it this morning (really for the first time) moving snow. Plenty bright and it looks cool, too!

Well we got about 7 inches of snow yesterday. My 8n plowed snow like a champ even without the tire chains on. This was my first time moving snow with a tractor and I was very surprised at how quickly it went. I have a long 1/8th mile driveway and really I got the bulk of it done with 2 down and back passes. More time was spent cleaning up the pad in front of the garage than anything else. The rear light worked great. So glad I got the tractor. It would have taken me forever to do it with my snow blower.
