rebuild questions

so now that I have my 2n running pretty good, I have low oil pressure. With 20W50 in it, it starts at 35psi and drops to 10psi as it warms up (at 3/4 throttle). It is loosing oil but I have been just topping it off each time I use it. The #1 cyclinder has quite a bit of oil on the plug. Therefore, I am betting that the rings are gone.

Is it possible to replace the main bearings in the tractor? My plan is to try to make it to winter when I can split the tractor. However, if I need to rebuild this summer I would like to do it without splitting it since my barn will not be done until at least late summer or fall.

Thanks

Chris

ck1......10psi warm is NOT a killer. Iff'n yer really concerned, change the 20wt to straight 40wt detergent. 20w-50 is 20wt oil with additives. Infact, Ford recommended 40wt for HOT summertime operation.

As fer yer #1 sparkie oil foul, recommend HOT AutoLite 437's gapped 0.025".

Yeah, might have cracked #1-cyl oil rings. Do the dreaded compression test; Ford specs: 90psi min (dry) then to a "wet" test with about 1-oz/tablespoon engine oil down yer sparkie hole to seal yer rings. Report back.

You DO NOT want to rebuild yer engine without splitting the tractor. .......Dell

It's possible,as I've done it to replace almost anything without removing the engine, but you've got oil pressure, albeit low. as long as it has oil pressure, run it until you have facilities. As has been advised, you can put 40wt,or heavier to maintain oil pressure.I've heard of Ns that ran with almost 0 pressure for years. Not something I'd look foreward to,but it happens.---lha
