Rebuilding hydraulic pump

'53 Ford Jubilee

I need some help. I am trying to rebuild the hydraulic pump (piston style) and can not get the plate out of the pump cover/head. I think the old gasket underneath it has 'glued' it in. Any advice?

I appreciate anyone's help.
Thanks,
Steve in NC

Steve:

It is normal for the gasket to stick the cylinder head to the valve plate.

A close inspection will reveal that two of the bolt holes in the cylinder head are slightly oversized. After removing the screw in the center of the valve plate, insert a suitable punch into the oversized holes and carefully tap the valve plate loose from the cylinder head.

Thanks Dean. That worked. Any tips for getting out the pump shaft seal? The hydraulic rebuild DVD mentioned a race puller.
Thanks again,
Steve
