Rebuilt engine smoking

I had my Ford 5000 diesel engine professionally rebuilt recently 6 months later it starts smoking all the time when running. Does that have anything to do with the fact that it is stored outdoors? I have a storm cap on exhaust pipe.

What color smoke? Outdoor storage, though less than ideal, normally does not cause engine problems.

Probably not related. If the smoke is blue grey and stays in the air as a cloud, it is likely oil consumption, and should be under warrantee!!!
If it is whitish and smells sweet, it is likely coolant and should be under warrantee. There needs to be involvement with the Professionals that did the work. ASAP Jim

There was one more choice of smoke to add to Jim's list. If it's white and hurts your eyes, that's unburnt fuel.

I had this happen 10 years ago with a 4000. Fresh overbore ran good for a couple months then started white smoke. Original injector pump had high hours and was not rebuilt with the engine.

Advance the pump a degree or two and see if the smoke goes away. If so, overhaul the pump. I wouldn't just leave it at some unknown advance.

Then there is black smoke, which is incompletely burnt fuel, ie, not enough oxygen. Look for a plugged air filter or some other obstruction in the air intake system.

Stored outside with muffler cap has nothing to do with the engine smoking. Did they use break-in oil in the engine? Need to work the engine, get coolant up to 180 degrees or more. Was tractor put on a dyno when finished assembly for a couple hours? The piston rings need to seat in as Barnyard told you. And do not let the engine idle for any length of time. Take tractor out, work it, go plow,disk, work it, let cool down, shut-off. Keep the engine crankcase full of oil.

White smoke, injector pump was rebuilt, new rings, , everything rebuilt of replaced. I will check fuel tank for water. Will also try to store under cover during winter.
