Rebuilt hydraulics, new issue

I rebuilt the hydraulics on my 53 Jubilee. Took awhile to prime the pump but I finally got that going. I love the fact that the arms now stay up.

But now when I try to lift the arms they stutter slowly going up. Does not matter if they are loaded or not. Goes down nice and fast.

Any ideas? I've read that I may want to try draining all of the oil and refilling. Also read that might be a pump issue. Is it difficult to rebuild the pump?

Thanks for all the advice so far.

Steve,The stutter slowly going up of your lift arms is a good sign that one or more of the pistons in your pump are bad or worn. Its not difficult to rebuild the pump.Just a nasty job removing it and cleaning it up.Costly also.

Thanks for the response. Can you explain what you mean by costly? Is there more to fixing it than the pump repair kit?
Thanks,

He's talking NAA - not an N.

Whether servicing the top cover or rebuilding the pump the DVD sold by this site is indespensible for those of us new to hydraulics.

That usually indicates air in the pump. Going under the assumption that it's a piston pump, try loosening the plug on the front(toward front of tractor) top of the pump and letting the air bleed off. When you get the plug loose(wobbles a little but still threaded in a little) you'll probably see and hear air being pumped out. When it changes to all fluid coming out tighten the plug and check the lift. You'll lose some fluid with it but just check it and top it off when you're done.
Good Luck, Lee

Or it could also be from leaks @ the suction line connections. Is it a original piston pump or a vane pump replacement?
