Rebuilt starter failure

I had my Lucas starter rebuilt for my Ferguson TE20. After two days I have the same symptoms of the starter spinning and not engaging. What would cause this to happen? The starter was in the tractor for 15 years when this happened. Now after ten starts I have the same problem. Any ideas. I will take the starter back to the rebuilder tomorrow.

Clean all the connections - battery posts, ground, switch, starter post. Use a voltmeter to see if there is high resistance somewhere in the circuit. I'm not familiar with the Lucas starter, but I am assuming that the bendix if centrifugally operated and needs to turn at speed to engage. Perhaps low current is enough to spin the starter but not fast enough to throw out the bendix.

le fait que ça n'enclanche pas aurait pu venir du pignon qui serait usé, mais s'il à été refait à neuf, je suppose que le pignon à été changé du moins s' il avait été usé. Bizarre que ça veuille pas engagé la couronne, même avec peu de courant ça devrait s'entendre quand ça touche les engrenages, ça grince quand ça les touches.
Quand tu dis " après 10 démarrages, ça veut dire que revenu du réparateur tu as pu démarrer 10 fois ? Ou ça veut dire que tu as tenté 10 fois de lancer le démarrage ?
As-tu une batterie bien chargée et qui donne son maximum, voir si les masses sont propres et bien serrées.
Au moment où tu démarres voir si le courant HT vers le démarreur n'est pas dévié et ne va pas ailleurs.
Branche ton démarreur sans le monter en place et voit si il lance bien le pignon " bendix " normalement le pignon coulisse en revenant vers le bloc démarreur. Tu pourras voir si çà vient de ton circuit electrique. Sur le Ferguson TE20 au montage du démarreur, le pignon Bendix se trouve derrière le volant, il recule et entraîne la couronne dentée.

Probably not the case but if the Lucas Bendix spins out too far it will lock and not return. Makes a racket though so not likely in this case. I had the unfortunate experience of having the starter out and spun it out by hand. It locked in the spin out position. After several hours I was able to disassemble the solenoid and put it back together the right way. Not fun! If you find a source for just the Bendix I would sure like to know.

Turns out an internal sheer pin let go. I don’t know why, but they replaced the pin. Now I can start the tractor again. Should be good for another 15 years.
