Recommendations for a corn sheller.

I’m in need for a corn sheller to do about an acre of Bloody Butcher corn a year, 80-100 bushels. We are grinding it for corn meal and grits to sell at our farm store, so we will shell and grind a few hundred pounds on demand as needed. There is a JD 43 close by I want to check out, but are there other/better models and manufacturers I should look for? This is a business purchase and not a hobby, and I’m willing to drive 8-10 hours for the correct machine.

I would have never dreamed HD would have a corn sheller. Looks like a pretty good outfit for a small quantity of corn.
Home Depot has an online ordering scheme for smaller items works like this.
The Home Depot Delivery Options
  • Pickup Lockers (Small/Medium Items): You place your order online and choose locker pickup. You will receive a notification with a PIN and QR code to scan at the store's lockers, typically located outside the front entrance.

I found a John Deere #2 sheller about 90 miles away went and looked at it today and picked it up. Very cool old Farmer, runs thousands acres but still has a ton of old internationals, including a beautiful 1468.

I’m going to get this unloaded and cleaned up and run a few ears later today to knock the rest off of the burrs.

Adapted a similar New Idea to be driven by a tractor pto. Much quicker with tractor at idle, no more sore arms. Also do the Bloody Butcher but mainly for cattle and chicken feed. The sheller is for reclaiming seed, from the best ears, for next year.

How much Bloody Butcher do you raise? We are happy with it and working on saving seed that works the best here. This thing has already paid for itself in sore thumbs.
