Red oliver 550

Has anyone ever seen an Oliver 550 that has some evidence of red paint and Cockshutt decals ? Body style is early Oliver 550 (vertical steel grill), and is not the style that is typically identified as a Cockshutt 550.

Here is my Cockshutt 770

After the merger of Cockshutt and Oliver brands in '62, production of the "genuine" Cockshutts ceased, and several models of Oliver tractors were painted in Cockshutt colors and rebranded, to take advantage of customer loyalty to the Cockshutt name. There is no difference between the Oliver and Cockshutt versions, other than the paint and decals. Serial numbers will be Oliver, as will the tags- they all rolled down the same assembly line. The duplicate use of the 550 model number is just an unfortunate coincidence, but causes much confusion.

I heard about a guy in eastern Oregon who wanted a "Cockshutt Cockshutt" 550- saw a Cockshutt 550 advertised in a farm paper in Canada for $2,500, in good condition- he called about it, talked about condition, etc., didn't even think to ask about a possible Oliver "connection". Made his deal, the guy delivered it, and it was an "Oliver Cockshutt". He ended up taking it anyhow, as that was also a good price for that tractor.

mike. thanks for your reply. you, like alot of folks on this site know alot about the oliver brand. the tractor is in question was a "project", but with potential. bought for $300. didn't run, tires and rims all rotted. did have a loader. no drawbar. weeds growing out of the toolbox under the clutch pedal. good sheet metal. dad got it running day after he got it home. only drove one way - forward. used it on the grain auger this fall. ran ok. tractor is in my pieces in my brother in law's shop. all coming together, after a few small dives into the checkbook and some innovative machining by an engineer/farmer/welder. tractor is red on many pieces under green paint. does have an oliver serial number. also has cockshutt decal on one side of the hood (over green paint). what color should we paint the tractor ?
