Redneck battery warmer

I keep cordless batteries and electrical tape in an old cooler that I warm with a light bulb during the winter. Usually the cooler is about 30 degrees warmer than the pole barn. If it gets too warm use a smaller bulb. Batteries seem to like staying warm.

Some of the led bulbs actually throw a good bit of heat, especially many early ones that's why they said not for enclosed fixtures. I have some from when I built my house about 6 years ago that the base which is a heat sink gets warm enough they are uncomfortable to hold. Newer ones seem to be more efficient and less heat and less wattage. That being said for his application a 130 volt incandescent would be best use of available power to make heat, the heavier filament makes more heat and less light which is ideal

A few winters ago our sewage lagoon froze over, the overflow, is the cap blows off the cleanout stand pipe. Then I put a styrofoam cooler over the pipe and a 60 watt bulb, It worked great for a couple of weeks, then I had to replace the bulb.

(quoted from post at 09:09:23 11/29/19) Geo give us a break. (I never get on your case but an LED bulb just does not apply to this solution). a 220v 150 watt bulb running on 120 might work forever. Jim

His ice would.melt You want the man drinking hot beer?

I started with a 40w bulb and temperature was more than what I wanted. Easy to change a light bulb to any temperature you want.

Where do you get a thermal cube?

For the most part temperature in pole
barn is usually 10 degrees above outdoor
temperatures, no insulation or heat. I
think the 6 inch concrete floor stores
heat . So temp inside box keeps
electrical tape warm enough and batteries
stay warm enough. Sometimes I'll keep a
can of spray paint inside too.

When I leave home I turn off the heat, but then when I get home, my TV flipper won't work till the batteries warm up. I need a flipper warmer! Ha ha.

I use an old dead upright freezer. Put a ceramic light fixture inside near the bottom and a 40 watt incandescent keeps stuff from freezing down to -40F.

I do that down here as well. My shop i s not climate controlled so anything I do not want to get rusty due to the sometimes high humidity goes in. Like bang sticks and tools. The little bit of heat from a bulb keeps the humidity down.
