Regarding radiator cores

Okay everyone, I'm needing a new radiator core for my JD60. A few questions please.

I know 4 row is better than 3 row. Does it make a difference in materials it's made from?

Who's got the best 'bang for the buck' out there and why? STP? YT? Abilene?

I'm planning on NOT painting the core, just the outside frame it's bolted in. OR should I paint it?

Many thanks ahead of time to the wrench wizard's wealth of knowledge.

I have a JD 60 parts tractor and it still has from what I can tell a good radiator on it. Sold the power steering off of it years ago but the guy has never picked it up . Not sure where you are but I am in Missouri

For what it is worth, when I got a new rad for the 630 I looked at shipping weight figuring a heavier radiator will be stronger. In the end I paid the big bucks and bought one from Deere because the shipping weight was the heaviest. With this radiator I can work the snot out of the tractor on a hot summer day and the temp will not go above 210. I do not remember it cooling that well in the hot summer ever. When we used to lay by corn with this tractor pulling a six row 30" cultivator I sometimes had to run in third gear instead of fourth to keep it below 220. It has been on this farm since new 59 years ago.

If you have a good radiator shop close by talk to them. Mine can still get cores made by Modine here in the US which was the original manufacturer. The fins aren't the same as originally but they are nice, quality cores you won't have to worry about again. Of course you pay more for one made here but I think it's worth it.
